In Montana, much of our food came from the land; we had a huge garden, we hunted deer and fowl for most of our meat, and we gathered wild mushrooms and fruits to flesh out the pantry. Now, on a small sailboat in the Sea bordering the Sonoran Desert, we’re hoping to bring a similar ethic of hunting and gathering to a very foreign landscape.
We plan to eat fish and shellfish and crustaceans from the local waters, and forage for edible plants in the desert. There is no better way to learn the ecology of an area than by learning to eat from it.
We will add stories, tips and recipes as we travel, so stay tuned to see what kind of weird stuff ends up in our cuisine.
